Born on Styrsö, an island off Sweden’s west coast, on 13.4.1974, Ruben Östlund studied film and photography at Gothenburg University. A proficient skier, he previously made a series of winter sport shorts Free Radicals 1-3. His feature film debut was Gitarrmongot in 2004; his second feature, De Ofrivil-Liga screened in Cannes (Un Certain Regard) in 2008.
