Christiane Büchner, born in 1965 in Freiburg i. Br., Germany, member of the selection committee of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen since 2001. She studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne. She lives in Cologne where she works as author, filmmaker and media designer.

When Mikhail Gorbachev started his reforms he tried to integrate the media into his strategy, asking them to critically report on all areas of society. However, what glasnost brought to light were eerie images of a lawless and brutal reality that paralyzed and alienated the people.
